Do you identify with a particular religion or philosophy(e.g.
Buddhism, Wicca, secular humanism)?
Social democracy. (Petteri Sulonen #1442)
I am a thinking being, I should be able to do my own thinking. :)
(Werail AA# 1546)
If I wanted to use a label people could recognise, I'd say I was a humanist. But I also call myself an equalist, as an avid supporter
of all people being equal. (Tigger #1109)
However anything that smacks of "New Age"( e.g. what's fashionable this week!) ,is a big turn off. (Crstals,aliens,horoscopes....)
Wicca is an interesting attempt to resurrect an extinct religious past
(my ancestors were mostly celts!) and I admire the intention of trying
to create a natural-world based spirituality and ethical system. I cant quite get over the "artificiality" of it though. Then again perhaps I should view that as a positive - that it isn't just a hand me down
dogma but something which is being actively created by its participants.
Sorry. Thinking out aloud!. (Mark Richardson #1095)
a realist (strong) naturalist in metaphysics (in that I believe that
there is an external world, and believe that there is not a supernatural realm)
a realist for abstract objects (at least for propositions and
mathematical objects and some others)
a realist for the laws of nature, though I'm not sure what this
entails
a relaibilist in epistemology
agnostic in philosophy of mind (though I think a property dualist view
most likely)
an incompatibilist with regards to free will and determinism
a free-willist with regards to free will or a lack thereof
a realist about mortal claims
a deontist for metaethics, though I think that good things can be said
for virtue ethics, and consequentialism in part needs to be taken into account. Further, I believe that a full philosophy of action must take into account pragmatic concerns in addition to moral ones.
a strong atheist with regards to God. I believe that anything which can truly and honestly be called God does not exist.
A critical rationalist with regards to many things. I believe that truth/falsehood and justified/unjustified are different measures, and
that people can have true rational beliefs, false rational beliefs, true irrational beliefs, and false irrational beliefs. I also believe that
two people with opposite beliefs _may_ both be rational,
including in the theism/atheism debate. Unfortunately, I also believe
that most of the theists we get in a.a are not of the rational kind.
I also consider myself a secular humanist. (Ed. Stoebenau #143)
