Do you get annoyed when politicians and tv bible-thumpers scapegoat humanism as an instigator for modern probelms or do you laugh it off considering the source?

• Annoyed. I consider myself a strong atheist, but some people could even argue that I'm an agnostic. I take the SA stance merely to stand up to assholes such as you've mentioned in your question. I am, above all, against any and all theocratic laws and attempts to pass such laws. Laws get passed because the majority listens to said assholes. (Bob Haynes #8)

• Although it's very easy to laugh stuff like this away, we really shouldn't for the simple fact that lot's of people are easily swayed by the rhetoric that these people spew forth. (Mark C. #99)

• It's always the same. The bleaters figure out what's wrong and then tell you to be afraid of it or hate it. Meanwhile they take full advantage (as does everyone else) of the benefits of what the secular humanist have given to this world. • I laugh it off because there is really no point in getting upset. Once something like that is publically said then a whole bunch of people jump on the bandwagon, often from a sound bite that they don't really know the context to in the first place. I like a line from Men In Black (yes I am quoting a silly movie, but so many people quote a silly book) "A person is smart, people are stupid"

• I most certainly do. Too many people are stupid enough to believe everything they see on TV, and stupid people are dangerous when they get certain ideas in their heads. So what happens when some asshole who claims to have an all-powerful being that far too many people in this country (US) already believe in convinces enough people that the non-godsoaked are to blame for all the evils in the world? • I abhore (sp?) hypocrasy (so I have little toleration for Xians in general) and this habit of theirs to blame 'secular' humanism for all of society's ills really burns me up b/c Xianity has by far caused more of these ills than anything else has. (Michael Morgan #1083)

• They never do that here (The Netherlands), but I would be "extremely" annoyed if they did. I don't think it's humorous when people with influence say things like that. (Joris Zwart #106)
