Can you see yourself as a Christian, if Christianity is revealed
to be true?
BTW; Who's version? (:-) (Puck #162)
Hardly, too many "bad vibes" around it. If it were revealed as truth, I would accept what truth is, but I couldn't worship such a monster. Something like when conservatives won the elections: I must accept it because this is what the voting decided, but I don't like it at all. (Angel Arnal #1443)
It'd be like asking if "atheism" could be revealed to be "true." Atheism can't be true or false... neither can Christianity.
If the beliefs of Christianity were "revealed to be true," they'd become facts, not beliefs... in that case, I couldn't be a "Christian" because Christianity is a belief system. You can't "believe" or "not believe" facts, you can either accept them or ignore them. (Nat #1750)
I don't think that's going to happen. (John Hachman #1782)
If the general "There is a kind, loving, benevolant deity that has a plan for you" deal is all revealed as truth... yup.
But, if it's revealed that the entire bible is historically accurate as a recording of events, I see myself as either a conscientious objecter to a deity that judges you on how good a slave you are and likes to command that you slaughter infants of warring countries or a nice little groveler that's trying not to piss off this huge dude that'll throw me to hell for not loving it enough.
In short, your question isn't specific enough. Which Christianity? The popular "God is all loving" christianity? The fanatacal "God will kick your ass for not being Christian" christianity? other versions? (wingedbeast #273)
I've always viewed the *myth* of Satan to be that of a hero -- a rebellious angel that decided that he was sick of God's crap. A revolutionary, if you will.
It is in my opinion that if you read the Judeo-Christian Bible with an *objective* point of view, it is plain to see who the TRUE villain is: G - o - d. God is the one who gets uptight about every little mistake that his creations make, and who punishes them without mercy, and without a thought. Whereas, Satan does nothing more than offer the "evil" of knowledge, and a little enjoyment in *this* life.
In short:
The character known as God is an uptight asshole, and the supposed "evil" one, Satan, is cool. };-) (Hellhammer #1876)
