As an atheist, which supernatural horror films are your favorite?
Which fantasy? Which SF? Why?
Science Fiction film - a tie between "The Day The Earth Stood Still", "Things To Come" and the entire Star Wars series. "The Day The Earth
Stood Still" for Michael Rennie, "Things To Come" for its message of
hope and incredible special effects and Star Wars simply for existing.
Fantasy Film - "The Princess Bride" for being so damned clever.

SF: _Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan_
Fantasy: _Dragonheart_ was pretty good, but I'd have to go with
_Superman II_ for sheer number of viewings. (Tukla #1347)
The Hellraiser trilogy (in four parts). Despite the contradictions in the films, the story is well written. Great costumes, and the little one-liners ("I am the way", "Do you really think I care what God thinks?") make my day.
> Science Fiction film -
The Matrix. Bladeunner for Nihilists. Excellent. I wrote a story a few years ago that seems to have been ripped off here...
> Fantasy Film -
Legend. A great myth, a battle between "good" and "evil", with both
sides showing signs of each other. (Kae Verens #1664)
Fantasy: "Legend" "Dragon Heart"
SF: "Stargate" "The 5th Element" (Lady Lorelei #1049)
Fantasy - "Jack Frost" (MST3K again) - You just can't beat those Russo-Finnis co-productions!
SF - "Prince of Space" (Yep - an MST3K sweep!) - I just can't get enough
of the laughter of the Phantom of Krankor! (Nemo #1331)
Fantasy: "Wizards" I really enjoy Ralph Bakshi's style of animation/
real combination which creates a higher level of surealism. "Altered States" was also a great one.
Science fiction: You rarely see any science in SF movies. Usually they just put ordinary scripts in a "futuristic" setting or they put satan/invincible monster in a space ship. Oooooh, thrilling! Bad science usually kills it for me as well; example, "Jurassic Park". You would
think that they would consult with a scientist in that field before
going public, but no, they know it all. My favorite would have to be
"12 Monkeys". The plot was feasable (except maybe the time travel bit).
The acting was great, and the music set the perfect mood. Madeleine
Stowe really looked hot in that red dress. (CTThegreat)
I don't really like "horror" or "supernatural" films. Unless you could
put the film 'The Rapture' into this category. 'The Rapture' (the one
with Mimi Rogers and David Duchovny) is one of my favorite films,
because it demonstrates how unfair the Christian god is (if he existed).

SF - Darkstar - If you need me to tell you, then you obviously haven't
seen it. (Only just squeezes in ahead of Silent Running)
Fantasy - Fantasia. I just love the animation along with the music.

In the horror/SF areas, it seems I'm attracted to the supernatural. Lovecraft has his Elder Gods/aliens/whatever, and Star Wars has the
Jedi. On Fantasy, well, those two movies were just so amusing. And
Carey Ewles(sp?) was in both of them, which was a definite plus.
Again, though, there was an element of supernatural in these movies.
So I guess I tend to like myth (so long as it's presented as fiction).
(Dan McEwen #1617)
Supernatural horror: would probably have to be "Poltergeist." I'm not really into horror films, although "Scream" was entertaining.
Fantasy: "Contact" comes to mind, but most people would label that
science fiction, I guess. "Highlander" rates pretty high for me, and
I must confess a weakness for "Ben Hur", although that is more because
of my love for Roman history. The Star Wars films and Indiana Jones
films impressed me as well.
Science Fiction: "The Saint" is a particular favorite of mine, but
isn't really heavy on the science part, it's more of an adventure
film. Perhaps "Star Trek: Insurrection" would be my favorite here.
Or even the Aliens films (Sigourney Weaver), although those are more
like horror films.
Can you tell I have a hard time classifying things? (Carl Funk #1229)
